Mabel Hurni, age 91, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.Mabel S. Hurni was born August 12, 1920 at Doran, Minnesota, the daughter of Frank and Sarah (Claud) Schmiedeberg. She graduated from high school in Campbell, Minnesota. On January 23, 1940 Mabel was united in marriage to Jake Hurni in Campbell, Minnesota. They moved to Maplewood Township where they farmed for 32 years. In 1971 they moved to Star Lake until her husband died in 1994 when Mabel moved into Pelican Rapids where she currently lived at River Front Manor.Mabel was active in 4-H and later became an adult leader. She was active in Homemakers, Sunny Side Mission and Camp Joy at Star Lake. Mabel was a member of First Congregational Church in Pelican Rapids where she was an active worker and volunteer.She enjoyed gardening, baking and sewing.Mabel is survived by one daughter: Norma (Gordon) Scott of Pelican Rapids, MN; one son: Robert (Cathy) Hurni of Grand Junction, CO; one sister: Elsie Pierce of Hatton, ND; five grandchildren: Kari (Tyson) Hering, John (Diane) Hanson, Sarah (Grant) Harrington, Melinda (Rich) Borchardt, Kevin Hurni and eleven great-grandchildren: Katie and Terry Hering, Brandon and Kayla Harrington, Coulter and Chloe Hanson, Jacob Borchardt, Sara, Tyler, Peter and Falon Scott.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jake, four sisters and three brothers.
