Iola Erickson

Iola G. (Clauson)Erickson, 92, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota died Friday, April 13, 2012, at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.Iola was born June 11, 1919 in Scambler Township, the daughter of Morgan and Olava (Swenson) Clauson. She was baptized and confirmed at Grove Lake Lutheran Church in rural Pelican Rapids. In 1937 she graduated from Pelican Rapids High School and during her high school days worked at the Sherin House. On May 29, 1943 she was united in marriage to her classmate and love, Edwin A. Erickson, at her parent's home in Pelican Rapids. Iola and Edwin farmed east of Pelican Rapids and besides her active role in farming, she enjoyed quilting, baking (she was known for her lefse and brown raisin bread), sewing, singing in the Chapel Trio, Sweet Adelines and church choir. She was also active in Homemakers and Farmer's Club, 4-H and church groups. She is survived by her children: Phyllis Treinen, Elliston, MT, Kathy (Richard) Jenson, Pelican Rapids, MN, Marilyn Newborg, Fridley, MN, Michael Erickson, Augusta, GA, Everett P. (Shannon) Erickson, Pelican Rapids, MN, Kari (Brian) Donnelly, Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Eric (Tammy) Erickson, Buffalo, ND; Thirteen Grandchildren: David (Tracey) Treinen, Sherry (Steve) Tipping, Susan (Mike) Martoccia, Sara (Dylan) Berg, Daniel Treinen, Jonetta Knutson, Ross (Amanda) Jenson, Beth (Eric) Soderberg, Kay Newborg, Jessica Erickson, Stephen (Sarah) Erickson, Zane (fiance' Cami) Erickson and Reed Erickson and Eighteen Great Grandchildren.She is also survived by three sisters, Dolly Amundson, Pelican Rapids, MN, Marlys (Richard) Jennen, Elbow Lake, MN and Arlene Stephenson, Bismarck, ND; sisters-in-law, Doris Ishaug, Jean Clauson, Linda (Wayne) Augustus all of Pelican Rapids, MN and brother-in law, Marvin (Joline) Erickson, Lynnwood, WA.She was preceded in death by her spouse, Edwin; parents, Morgan and Olava Clauson; son-in-law, Skip Treinen; siblings, Clarice Anderson, Ellen Hushagen, Morris Clauson, Oren Clauson, Verna Clauson, Raymond Clauson, Freda Kaltvedt, Walter Clauson, Louise Baxter and Charles Clauson.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to an organization of your choice.Visitation: Will be Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a 7:00 pm Prayer Service and will resume one hour prior to services in the church.
