Ella Marie Ronningen

Ella Ronningen, age 85, a resident of rural Pelican Rapids, MN, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Pelican Valley Nursing Home.Ella Marie Holloway, the daughter of Albert and Lena (Hulsebus) Holloway, was born December 25, 1926 at her home southwest of Fergus Falls, MN on a farm in Orwell Township. She attended District 197, a one-room school, about a mile west of her home. Later, she went to Fergus Falls High School, graduating in 1944. During her senior year, she worked doing housework. The summer after graduating, she helped her father with farm work. In the fall of 1944, she worked at the Red Owl Grocery Store and also at Nelson's Caf in Fergus Falls.On June 8, 1947, Ella was united in marriage to Robert Ronningen. Ella and Bob farmed and raised their children north of Pelican Rapids on the family farm. She attended Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was an active member of Ladies Aid and Circle. Ella especially enjoyed making quilts at church. She was also a life member of the VFW Auxiliary. Every spring, Ella planted a large vegetable and flower garden. She enjoyed canning and freezing the vegetables. She also loved coin and stamp collecting, embroidering, sewing, bird-watching, and spending time with her family and friends.Ella is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert Ronningen, Pelican Rapids, MN; children: daughter, Joan (Brad) Lunde, Pelican Rapids, MN; son, Danny (Kathy) Ronningen, Fargo, ND; daughter, Kari (Sean) Randall, Sioux Falls, SD; grandson, Matthew Lunde, Fargo, ND; three step-grandchildren, Kimberly Rhea and Michael Young, Nashville, TN, Jamie Young, Fargo ND; and six step great-granddaughters.
