Catherine Mary Munkirs

Catherine Munkirs, age 93, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died Saturday, July 28, 2012 at her sister's home in Breckenridge.Catherine Mary Kappes was born October 31, 1918 at Ada, Minnesota, the daughter of Tony J. and Anna (Platt) Kappes. She attended school in Ada where she also worked as a waitress for several years. On November 13, 1941 Catherine was united in marriage to George Lowell Berger in Ada. They lived in Minnetonka, Minnesota, where Catherine was a professional seamstress. George and Catherine moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she worked at Deep Draw for several years. George died November 7, 1983, shortly after they had moved to Pelican Rapids. Catherine was united in marriage to Charles Murkins August 8, 1997 at St. Leonard Catholic Church in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. He died November 7, 2003. In November of 2011 Catherine moved to Breckenridge to be cared for by her sister, Theresa Brantl.Catherine was a member of St. Leonard Catholic Church. She was a volunteer at her church and at the Mill Pond High Rise in Pelican Rapids. She had taught figure skating, enjoyed embroidery and seamstress work, gardening and dancing.Catherine is survived by her son Scott Berger, Santa Fe, New Mexico, and daughter, Diane Mahn, LaPointe, Wisconsin; two grandchildren: Jaclynne (Cameron) Adair and Samantha Berger; sisters: Theresa "Tootie" Brantl, Breckenridge, MN, and Marie Anderson, Naytahwaush, MN; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husbands, nine siblings, and granddaughter, Rachel.Funeral Home:Larson Funeral Home304 3rd Street S.E.Pelican Rapids, MNUS 56572
