Alvin Johnson

Alvin Johnson, age 89, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.Alvin was born February 13, 1923, in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota the son of Anton and Luella (Haugtvedt) Johnson. Alvin attended country school at district #201 in Norwegian Grove Township. Alvin met his love of his life, Grace Kuik, and they were united in marriage on December 22, 1942, in Moorhead, MN. Alvin and Grace made their home near Frazee where they worked on the George Miller farm for eight years. After moving to rural Elizabeth, Alvin farmed for the Ralph Skistad family for 36 years. In 1992 Alvin and Grace moved to their home near Erhard. Grace and Alvin celebrated 65 years of marriage in December 2007. Grace died on June 3, 2008. Alvin entered Pelican Valley Nursing Home in December of 2011.Alvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Since July 1960 Alvin was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Elizabeth. Alvin is survived by seven children: Earl Johnson of Stroud, Oklahoma, Mary Ann (Gary) Halverson of Alexandria, MN, Jerry (Mary) Johnson of Fergus Falls, MN, Curtis (Kay) Johnson of Alexandria, Arlene (Mike) Hanson of Erhard, MN, Alice Kast of Fergus Falls, David (Cindy) Johnson of Pelican Rapids; 26 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Johnny (Erna) Kuik of Denver, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers and sisters.Visitation: Thursday, January 24, 2013, from 1 2 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church in Elizabeth, Minnesota.
