George Malmberg, 82, of Pelican Rapids, died on Tuesday, March 05, 2013 at Good Samaritan Society Pelican Rapids Senior Living. George Arvid Malmberg was born on January 21, 1931 in Glen Ellyn, Illinois a suburb of Chicago, IL to Arvid and Mabel (Bartz) Malmberg. He grew up and attended school in Glen Ellyn. He served his country in the US Army beginning in 1948 for three years. He was stationed in several places including France and Germany. After his military duty George moved back to Glen Ellyn where he worked with his father in construction. He was united in marriage to Helen Radzis in 1962. They started their married life in Chicago, IL, then moved to Villa Park, IL. In 1971, they settled in St. Louis Park, MN where they lived from 1972. In 1986 Helen passed away. George worked as a production control manager for Standard Conveyor and before retiring worked in sales at Montgomery Wards. He continued living in St. Louis Park until 1995. George was active in the Richfield Alano for many years. He was united in marriage to Carol Davids on May 2, 1993 in Excelsior, MN. They lived in St. Louis Park for a couple of years and then moved to Lake Lida near Pelican Rapids in 1995. He lived sober for over 43 years. He belonged to the Sunday morning AA group in Pelican Rapids. George never had idle hands. He enjoyed building items for Carol's students. He also liked tying flies for fly fishing. He would build many trinkets and gadgets out of wood. He was an outdoorsman and spent hours outside gardening and fishing. For the past 17 years George and Carol wintered in Spring Hill, Florida. He is survived by his wife Carol, of Pelican Rapids, MN, one daughter Stephanie "Penny" Malmberg, St. Louis Park, MN, two grandchildren: Sonya Malmberg of Minneapolis, MN, and Natasha Malmberg, of Milwaukee, WI, brother Bill (Shirley) Malmberg, West Chicago, IL; two brothers-in- law Floyd Herzog of Chicago, IL, Jim Cooper, Chicago, IL and several brother and sisters-in- law, and many nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his first wife Helen, his parents, one brother Tom Malmberg, two sisters: Lois Herzog, and Mable Cooper, and close friend Les Strachan.
