Lawrence "Larry" Olson Sr

Lawrence Olson Sr., age 86, a resident of Pelican Rapids died November 1, 2013 at the Fargo VA hospital.Lawrence M. Olson Sr. was born December 14, 1926 in McLeod, North Dakota, the son of Knute and Lydia Olson. Larry grew up on a farm near McLeod, North Dakota. Lawrence served in the United States Army in 1945 where he lost his hearing during a training accident. On October 6, 1946 Lawrence was united in marriage with Maxine Short. Lawrence and Maxine lived in Fargo where Larry drove taxi cab and drove semi-truck for Raymond Brothers. In 1961 they moved to Pelican Rapids and Larry drove truck for Farnam's in Pelican Rapids and Fitzgerald Construction based out of Sabin, Minnesota. Larry retired in 1984. Larry enjoyed watching and feeding his birds, spending time on the computer, and yard work. He also enjoyed singing and playing the guitar and piano. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Larry and Maxine took the grandchildren on several vacations to South Dakota.Lawrence was a member of Grove Lake Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #17 in Pelican Rapids, and Disabled American Veterans.Lawrence is survived by his wife, Maxine, Pelican Rapids, MN; three sons: Lawrence Olson Jr., Fargo, ND, Ronald (Jacqueline) Olson, Orlando, FL, and Bradley (Melissa) Olson, Cottage Grove, MN; four daughters: Karen (Greg) Mosey, Lake Ida, MN, Virginia (Randy) Davenport, Pelican Rapids, MN, Katherine (Jerry) Steiner, Rothsay, MN, and Michelle Olson, Fargo, ND; eight grandsons; ten granddaughters; four foster grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; several half-brothers and half-sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, David Steiner; sister, Florence Schultz; half-brothers: Alan and Ervin Olson; half-sister, Delores Hanson.Visitation: Tuesday, November 5, 2013 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.Service: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Grove Lake Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, MNClergy: Pastor Jeff McCrackenMilitary Honors: V.F.W.
