Shirley Nettestad

Shirley Nettestad, age 84, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on November 6, 2013 at Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. Shirley Beckman was born February 22, 1929, in Underwood, Minnesota the daughter of Selvin and Caroline (Moen) Beckman. She was baptized and confirmed at Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood. Shirley graduated from Underwood High School and then she attended Business College in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. From 1948 to 1951, Shirley worked at Lake Region Electric in Pelican Rapids. On January 1, 1951 Shirley was united in marriage to Chester O Nettestad Sr. She took several years off from working outside her home to raise her family. From 1965 to 1989, Shirley worked at the United States Postal Service in Pelican Rapids where she retired. Chester passed away September 3, 1990. Shirley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Pelican Rapids School Board and Ringsaker Cemetery Board. Shirley was active with the Red Cross Blood Drive and formerly active as a Cub Scout Den Mother of Pack 313.Shirley enjoyed sewing, gardening, flower gardening, wii bowling, playing cards, playing Scrabble, and spending time at their lake home. She traveled extensively to such places as Bangkok, Thailand, Beijing, Japan, Austria, Germany, and Norway. Many of these trips were with her daughter, Kathie. Shirley was survived by her son Chester (Paulette) Nettestad Jr. of Pelican Rapids with their children: Kristin (Dave) Grommesh and Shonda (Adam) Chwialkowski; son Charles (Joanne) Nettestad of Alexandria with their children: Ole (Jill) Nettestad, Anna Windish, and Caroline (Kyle) Chan; son Michael (Sheri) Nettestad of Pelican Rapids with their children: Erik (Ingjerd) Nettestad, Ellie Nettestad, and Lindsey Nettestad; daughter Kathie Nettestad of Woodbury, Minnesota; Great-Grandchildren: Gavin and Collin (Kristin and Dave's), AJ and Hope (Shonda and Adam's), Ella, Cole and Britta (Ole and Jill's), Joseph (Anna's), Lauren and Leah (Caroline and Kyle's), Aiden and Nicholas (Erik and Ingjerd's), Alex, Kallie, Keagan, and Preston (Ellie's):sister Pearl Wagstrom, Fergus Falls, MN; sisters-in-law Marlys Beckman and Fern Nettestad; and numerous nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and brother, Warren.Visitation: Monday November 11, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN.
