Janice Griep, 75, died on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls, MN. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Larson Funeral Home in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota with Rev. Jeff McCracken officiating. Janice was born on September 7, 1938 to Wilfred Nathaniel and Jeanette (Paulson) Barklind in Minneapolis, MN. She was baptized in the Lutheran Faith. She attended school in St. Louis Park, MN. As a young girl she worked as a nanny and housekeeping in Minneapolis. She was united in marriage to Wayne Allen Griep on October 29, 1963 after Wayne was discharged from the Army. They made their home in Crystal, MN. Janice worked at Maid of Scandinavia for many years. Wayne and Janice started Wayne's Auto and Truck Service in New Hope, MN. Together they ran that for about 20 years. Janice also worked for ID Services in New Hope for close to 20 years. In the early 1970's, Wayne and Janice bought property on South Lake Lida. Over the years, they and the family built their retirement home. They retired to the Lake in the early 1990's. Janice loved flowers, birds and gardening. She looked forward to the summer when she could add more and more perennials to the yard. Janice and Wayne were avid fisherman, who rarely missed an opening fishing day, even in the snow. Her favorite colors were green and maroon. She liked to cook big meals. She was blessed with a great memory. Janice and Wayne enjoyed bowling on a league for many years. They also enjoyed dancing. She is survived by her husband Wayne of 50 years, of Pelican Rapids, MN, six children: Ed Wolff, Maple Grove, MN, Janelle (Chuck) Bordieri, Dayton, MN, Cathy Rogers, Champlin, MN, Brenda Harper, Rogers, MN, Dawn Purland, Foley, MN, Michele (Bob) Richards, Orlando, FL; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, two sisters: Jeannie McCabe, Baxter, MN, Joyce (Dennis) VanKempen, Evansville, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews. Janice was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Bob, Everett, and Paul Barklind. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be used as the family designates.
