Marlon Restad, age 83, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the Pelican Valley Health Center in Pelican Rapids.Marlon Restad was born October 4, 1930 in Pelican Rapids, MN, the son of Maurice and Manda (Langseth) Restad. He was baptized and confirmed at Grove Lake Lutheran Church in rural Pelican Rapids. He graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1948 and attended the University School of Agriculture in St. Paul, MN. In 1954 Marlon married Ardys Haugrud at Pelican Rapids. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, spending most of that time in Japan in Army Aviation. After his discharge he came home and took over the operation of the family farm.Marlon served on the Board of Directors of the Farmers Elevator for many years. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Milk Producers Association, retiring as past president. He was also a member of the American Legion.Marlon's passion for flying airplanes earned him his Private Pilots License and became an active member of the Minnesota Flying Farmers organization where he also served as its past president.After retiring from farming, he became a substitute mail carrier but still helped his sons on the farm. Ardys died on August 22, 2004.Music was an interest he enjoyed throughout his life, playing the accordion and performing with several area bands. Marlon thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing, making many trips to Canada. He enjoyed sporting events, watching his boys participating in football and basketball.Marlon is survived by his sons: Paul (Jody) Restad of Pelican Rapids, Peter (Debbi) Restad of Pelican Rapids, and Mark (Dawn) Restad of Perham, MN; 7 grandchildren: Charla (Troy) Seter, Lisa (Ross) Erickson, Amanda (Brandon) Tweeton, Casey Restad, Sarah (Tony) Gilbert, Michael Restad, Leah Restad; 8 great-grandchildren: Emma, Brody, Kazlyn, McKenzie, Addison, Malia, Colton and Chase; sisters: LouAnn Restad, New Brighton, MN, Maureen (Bob) Berg, Pelican Rapids, MN and Sharon Halbakken, Pelican Rapids, MN; uncle, Ernest (Marcie) Restad; aunt, Ellen Anderson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ardys, and his brother, Everett.Visitation: Friday, April 11, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN.
