Lyle Sorum, age 79, a resident of Millbrae, CA, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, in Palo Alto, CA. Lyle Kermit Sorum was born May 13, 1935, the son of Orville and Bernice (Halbakken) Sorum in Pelican Rapids, MN. He was baptized at North Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids, MN and confirmed at Hamar Lutheran Church, Rothsay, MN. He graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1953.Lyle farmed with his father and brother on the family farm. He served in the U.S. Army stationed in Korea. He attended NDSU. He worked for Curtis Breeding Service and lived for a time in Iowa and St. Louis, Missouri. In 1981 his employment with U.S. GENES brought him to California. His fellow employees were like family to him and kept in contact over the years. After his retirement he continued to live in California.Lyle was a people person and always had time for a chat often inserting some antics in Norwegian. He was proud of his Norwegian Heritage and had made numerous trips to Norway to visit family and friends. His pride and joy were his two dogs (Norwegian Lundahuns), Ole and Lena. He made a special trip to Norway to adopt Lena.Lyle is survived by his caretaker, Issac Chu, brother, Orrin (Bonnie) Sorum, Pelican Rapids, MN, sisters: Mavis Holt, Pelican Rapids, MN, Sylvia (Carl) Baumgartner, Litchfield, MN and Beverly (Jerry) Sanden, Seattle, WA and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.Lyle is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brothers, Reuben and Selvin.Visitation: one hour prior to the service at the church.Service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2014 at New Life Lutheran Church, Rothsay, MNClergy: Pastor Paul HusoFuneral Home:Larson Funeral Home304 3rd Street S.E.Pelican Rapids, MNUS 56572
