Mabel Dunham, age 94, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died Tuesday, May, 27, 2014 at Pelican Valley Health Center, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. Mabel Adeline Johnson was born May 14, 1920 in Pelican Rapids the daughter of Carl E. and Nellie (Holmgren) Johnson. Mabel was baptized and confirmed at the Swede Church now known as Central Lutheran Church in rural Pelican Rapids and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1938. As a young woman she worked delivering milk for her parents' dairy business. After graduating she worked at the Pelican Rapids High School superintendent's office and J.P. Wallace Bank. On May 14, 1949 Mabel was united in marriage with Julian Maasjo. Julian died June 29, 1955. On September 21, 1958 Mabel married Melvin Dunham at South Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Rothsay, Minnesota. Melvin died on August 9, 1994. For many years Mabel worked as a township assessor and also taught piano lessons, retiring in 1983. In 2009 Mabel entered the Pelican Valley Health Center. Mabel was a member of the South Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving as their church organist for many years, teaching Sunday school, and active in the ladies aid as an officer and member. She was also active as a 4-H leader and a friend of the Pelican Rapids Library.She enjoyed playing piano, feeding and watching birds, gardening, sewing, quilting, needlework, crossword puzzles, and puzzles.Mabel is survived by sons: Lyndon (Peggy) Maasjo, Dent, MN and David (Debbie) Dunham, Pelican Rapids; daughters: Joan (Lee) Wilson, Harwood, ND and Marlene (Steven) Mohs, Savage, MN; six grandchildren: Adam (Sarah) Maasjo, Nicole (Robert) Cox, Lance Wilson, Courtney Mohs, April Wilson, and Hallie (Dan) Schmidt; 10 great grandchildren: Jackson, Skyla, Max, Caroline, Garrett, Michael, Sophia, Taylor, Cassandra, and Samantha; sister, Jean (Joe) Heminger, Minneapolis, MN; sister-in-law, Nora Wilprecht; and many nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Julian and Melvin; sister, Stella Wifall.Visitation: Monday, June 2, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN.
