Eunice Nelson

Eunice Nelson, age 94, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Pelican Valley Health Center in Pelican Rapids, MN. Eunice Georgia Julsrud, the daughter of Emil and Gina (Evanson) Julsrud was born on September 29, 1919 and raised on the family farm in Norwegian Grove Township. She attended country school and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1938. After graduation she attended Moorhead State Teachers College, where she received her teaching degree.After teaching for several years in a country school west of Pelican Rapids, Eunice was united in marriage to Elmer Nelson on September 21, 1947. They made their home in Pelican Rapids where they raised 3 children, and made their life together. Eunice was an active homemaker, who enjoyed sewing, quilting, and working on arts and crafts projects. In their retirement years, she and Elmer enjoyed traveling across the country in their RV, and they were happy to be able to see almost all of the 'lower 48' states on their journeys. Eunice was a good writer, and she loved to chronicle their trips in journals that the family still enjoys reading. She even wrote a 'local news' article for the Pelican Rapids Press for quite a number of years. Family was always important to Eunice, and she loved to spend time with her siblings and their families at holiday times, birthdays and at many summer picnics.Eunice was baptized and confirmed at North Immanuel Lutheran Church, and she and Elmer have been long-time members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Eunice is survived by her husband of 67 years, Elmer, Pelican Rapids, son Joel (Carolyn) Nelson, Pelican Rapids, MN, daughter Sandra (Randy) Dahlen, Rosemount, MN and Gary (Judy) Nelson, Edina, MN; 6 grandchildren: Carla (Scott) Richardson, Brian Nelson, Corey Dahlen, Cody Dahlen, Melissa Thomas and Becky (Doug) Blake; 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.Eunice is preceded in death by her parents, grandson Chad, siblings, Clarice Julsrud, Nora Rollie, Sanford Julsrud, Lillian Axness, and Carl "Mandus" Julsrud.Visitation: Wednesday, June 11, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN.
