Hazel Hagen, age 94, a resident of the Pelican Valley Nursing Home died Sunday, July 20, 2014. Hazel Jeanette Stadum was born January 18, 1920 in rural Rothsay to Andrew and Carrie (Grina) Stadum. She was baptized at Norwegian Grove Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids. She was confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rothsay. She attended rural school. On Pearl Harbor Day, December 7, 1941, she was united in marriage to Kermit Hagen in the parsonage at Rothsay. Shortly after the wedding, Kermit was drafted into the Army and deployed overseas. As a young mother, she moved to the Seattle area to live with her widowed sister and help care for her children. When Kermit was discharged from the Army, Hazel and Kathy returned to Pelican Rapids where she worked as a homemaker and was one of the first employees at West Central Turkeys. She also worked at Severson drug for several years and later helped her husband in the operation of the local John Deere business. Kermit died September 13, 2006.Hazel enjoyed making ceramics, playing cards, reading, crocheting, spending time with family and friends, cooking, baking and entertaining. Hazel was so proud of her family; children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and kept track of all their activities right to the end. She was very active in her home church in quilting, circle, WELCA, taught Sunday School and was on the church council.Hazel is survived by her daughter Kathryn (Darrel) Forsgren, Pelican Rapids, MN; a son Keith Hagen, Pelican Rapids, MN; grandchildren Linnea (Gene) Strand, Emma Quandt (Nathan), Abby and Claire Strand; Michael (Lisa) Forsgren, Colby, Tucker, and Grace; Amy (Tyler) Burnside, Lucas and Maia; sisters-in-law Rose Stadum, Harriet Stadum, Almeda (Charles) Woodward, and Vivian Hagen, and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kermit, sisters Alice VanderMeer, Eline Johnson, Adeline Clauson, and brothers Earl, Lloyd and Juel Stadum.Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.Service: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.Burial: Ringsaker Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.Clergy: Pastor Paul NelsonFuneral Home:Larson Funeral Home304 3rd Street S.E.Pelican Rapids, MNUS 56572
