Lennart Backstrom

Lennart Backstrom, age 91, resident of the Pelican Valley Nursing Home formerly a resident of Erhard, Minnesota, died Friday, September 19, 2014 at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls, MN. Lennart Backstrom was born February 5, 1923 in rural Erhard the son of Elmer and Jennie (Gustafson) Backstrom. He was baptized and confirmed at Central Lutheran Church near Pelican Rapids. Lennart attended District 17 School near Erhard and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1941. Lennart and Dorothy were united in marriage on May 23, 1950 at Bagstevold Lutheran Church in Erhard with Reverend Rosholt presiding. They lived east of Erhard where they owned and operated the family farm. He also drove truck, hauling gravel and cattle, served as the assessor for Maplewood Township and drove school bus. In his younger years, Lennart was a member of the Erhard Baseball Town League.He was an active member at Central Lutheran Church and was the oldest member at age 91.Lennart especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and the great-ones (great-grandchildren.)Lennart is survived by his daughter, Vicki (Mark) Satter, Pelican Rapids, MN; five grandchildren: Kevin (Amanda) Backstrom with their children Ella, Marie Dorothy, Grace and Samuel; Dani (Chad) Morrison with their daughter Wren; Kelly (Mason) Thompson with their children Tyra, Elyse and Payge; Alyssa (Norton) Bergman with their children Emmalyn and Beckham; and Traci (Robbie) Steiner ; brother, Elroy Backstrom; sister, Marilyn Nodsle, daughter-in-law, JoAnne Bjur; and nieces and nephews.Lennart is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, son, Loren, his parents, brother-in-law, Orville Nodsle, and sister-in-law, Leone Backstrom.Memorials are preferred to HAP (Handicap Accessible Project) at Central Lutheran ChurchVisitation: Monday September 22, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN.
