David Bengtson

David Bengtson, age 84, a resident of Pelican Rapids died on Friday, December 12, 2014 at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.David Oscar Bengtson was born May 27, 1930 in Pelican Rapids the son of Oscar and Hilda (Berg) Bengtson. He graduated from Pelican Rapids High School and then attended NDSU. David drove school bus for Pelican Rapids Schools and worked at Case implement in Pelican Rapids. During the Korean War David served for the United States Marines Corps being stationed in Hawaii. On December 23, 1955 David was united in marriage with Glenda Grefsrud at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids. After his military duty he owned and operated Dave's Repair in Pelican Rapids until the early 1960's. In 1962 they moved four miles west of Pelican Rapids where they resided for 50 years. David then was employed in Fargo at various dealerships as a mechanic and service writer. In 1974 David built his own shop west of Pelican Rapids where he repaired automobiles and tractors until he semi-retired. David also drove for Red River Trails, Minn-Dak Coop and various farmers.He was a member at Central Lutheran Church near Pelican Rapids and the Western Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag.David enjoyed woodworking, working on tractors, repairing engines, and especially enjoyed Willy Jeeps.David is survived by his three children: Dean (Cathy) Bengtson of Victoria, TX, Keith (Cole) Bengtson of Pelican Rapids, MN, and Yvette (Jeff) Martin of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren: Joseph Gargaro, David and Zack Bengtson, Maureen (Kevin) Cochran; great-grandchildren: Owen and Shane Cochran Kaidence Martin and numerous nieces and nephews.David is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Glenda who passed away on April 23, 2014.Service: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Central Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.Clergy: Pastor Leon Andersen and Pastor Phillip Enn TobinBurial: Central Lutheran Cemetery, near Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.Pallbearers: Carl Erickson, Scott Peterson, Al Brooks, Tammy Brooks, Sheila Montgomery, Kevin CochranFuneral Home:Larson Funeral Home304 3rd Street S.E.Pelican Rapids, MNUS 56572
