Evelyn "Diddies" Jean Jacobs

Evelyn "Diddies" Jacobs, age 68, a resident of Vergas, Minnesota, died on Sunday, February 1, 2015 surrounded by her family at her daughter's home near Pelican Rapids. Evelyn Jean Smith was born July 21, 1946 near White Earth, Minnesota to John and Evelyn (Ladoux) Smith. Evelyn attended Mission School in White Earth, Holy Rosary Elementary School in Detroit Lakes, and Detroit Lakes High School. In 1964 Diddies moved to Michigan and worked at the Ford Auto Plant in Detroit. In 1970 Evelyn moved back to the Detroit Lakes area. In 1972 she moved to the family farm near Prairie Lake. On January 7, 1977 she was united in marriage with James Jacobs in Sisseton, South Dakota. Diddies and James farmed in the Pelican area until 1986 when they moved to Vergas, Minnesota. At that time Diddies helped James with the family trucking business, JRK Transport. For the last several months she lived with her daughter, Karla, and her family near Pelican Rapids. Diddies loved being in the presence of her family, her children and grandchildren were light of her life. she enjoyed spending time at the lake, fishing, camping, playing bingo, cards, going to the casino, and watching movies, especially Charles Bronson movies. She was known to be a very good cook and made a 'mean' lasagna. Diddies always opened her home up to family and friends if they needed a place to stay. She believed in equality and doing things to perfection (sewing, wrapping gifts, birthday cakes).Evelyn was a former member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes and presently a member of St. Leonard Catholic Church in Pelican Rapids. Evelyn is survived her children: James (Chari) Smith , Vergas; Scott Cox, Minneapolis, Terese (David) Jacobs, Moorhead, Karla (Randy) Schermerhorn, Pelican Rapids, and JoEllen (Chaz) Walters, Pelican Rapids; grandchildren: Tasha (Tyler) Osman, Thomas, Tarah and Timothy Jacobs, Nicholas and Shelby Shermerhorn, Ethan, Coltan and Addisyn Walters; sisters: Connie Bevins, Mahnomen, Janice Morley, Mahnomen, Patsy Roy, Mahnomen, Edith (Jack) Chamberlain, Dearborn Heights, Michigan, and Phyllis Torgerson, Detroit Lakes, and brother, Leonard (Mary) Smith, White Earth; and numerous nieces and nephews. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Joseph; infant daughter, Elizabeth; brothers, Dennis(Joe) and Carl Smith; infant sister, Jeraldyne; brothers-in-law: Lawrence Bevins, Miles Morley, George Roy, and Thomas Torgerson.Memorials are preferred to the family of Evelyn Jacobs.Visitation: Wednesday, February 4, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m.at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN.
