Jane Rebecca Solum

Jane Rebecca Solum, age 83, of Pelican Rapids, MN, formerly of Barnesville, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Riverfront on Main in Pelican Rapids, MN.Jane Rebecca (Tollerud) Solum, the daughter of Melvin and Agnes (Ruud) Tollerud was born February 26, 1931 in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. She attended Country School District #48 of Norwegian Grove Township of rural Otter Tail County and later graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1949. On April 2, 1950 Jane was united in marriage to Donald J. Solum at North Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Otter Tail County. They made their home and farmed in Prairie View Township of Wilkin County, Minnesota. They continued to live there until they moved into Barnesville in 1995. Donald passed November 1, 2002. In May of 2010, Jane moved to the Riverfront Manor in Pelican Rapids. For the last two years Jane has lived at the Riverfront on Main in Pelican Rapids.Jane was an active member of Little Bethany Lutheran Church, the church circle, WELCA, a Sunday School Teacher, quilting group and also an alternate organist. She enjoyed spending time at the cabin on Crystal Lake, quilting, dancing, playing cards, attending her grandchildren's school activities, and taking care of Brady and Rachel when they were little. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and spending special time with all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which she loved unconditionally. She had a wonderful sense of humor and an extremely kind heart. She also loved to entertain family and friends whenever she could, and loved having coffee with many of her special friends.Jane is survived by daughters: Cindy (Greg) Larson and Kathy (Gary) Hovland of Pelican Rapids; sons: Dan (Joy) Solum of Rothsay and Kevin (Karen) Solum of Barnesville; 8 grandchildren: Valerie (Todd) Schultz, Kelly (Nikki) Knutson, Jayna (Trever) Johnson, Torrey (Anne) Hovland, Tracey Hovland, Karla Solum, Brady & Rachel Solum; step-grandchildren: Josh (Piper) Larson and Michelle Larson; great-grandchildren: Cole, Carter and Caden Opheim, Novilie Clark and Nash Knutson, Noah and Ella Johnson, Maclain and Cullen Hovland, Arianna and Amya Hovland; step great-grandchildren: Coltyn, Westyn and Noelle Larson, Kaylin Larson, Jon and Olivia Schultz; brother: Charles (Helen) Tollerud of Bismarck; brothers-in-law: Orville Erickson and Paul (Bev) Solum; sisters-in-law: Mildred (Cal) Boen and Sadonna Gamel and numerous nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Ardell Erickson, brother, Mervin (Betty) Tollerud, brothers-in-law, Jerome Sillerud and Arvid Solum. Visitation: Monday, February 16, 2015 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN.
