Julie O. Halbakken, age 98, of Rothsay, MN, died Thursday March 26th at Eventide on Eighth in Moorhead, MN. Julie O. (Christianson) Halbakken was born September 1st, 1916 in Pelican Rapids, MN the daughter of Oscar and Jenny (Stephenson) Christianson. She grew up and attended school in Pelican Rapids, MN.On February 26th, 1937 she married Sander C. Halbakken in Sisseton, SD. They were blessed with three daughters: Janice, Pam and Sandy. The couple began farming in Rothsay until they retired in 1980 and moved into town. During that time in her life she also cleaned houses in the Fargo/Moorhead area and later waitressed for many years at the Rothsay truck stop.Julie was a lifelong member of New Life Lutheran Church, formerly Hamar Lutheran Church, where she was active in Circle groups and Ladies Aid. She enjoyed playing cards at Partners in Rothsay as well as the Senior Citizens Center in Pelican Rapids. She loved baking and cooking, lefse, donuts and meatballs were her families' favorites. Julie especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Julie is survived by her 2 daughters: Pam Bakken, Fargo, ND., and Sandy (Brad) Arntson Annandale, MN., 4 grandchildren: Christopher Bakken, Fargo, ND., Ryan Bakken, Moorhead, MN., Megan (Rob) Sande, Shakopee, MN., and Casey (Austin) Henre, Buffalo, MN., and 4 great-grandchildren: Brayden Evert Bakken, Brynna and Harper Sande, and Jase Henre, and numerous nieces and nephews.Preceding her in death were her parents, daughter Janice (1950), her husband Sander whom passed away in 2000, sister Marion and brother Orris.Blessed be the Memory of Julie Ottillia HalbakkenVisitation: Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at New Life Lutheran Church, Rothsay, MinnesotaClergy: Pastor John KruegerBurial: Hamar Lutheran Cemetery, Rothsay, MinnesotaFuneral Home:Larson Funeral Home304 3rd Street S.E.Pelican Rapids, MNUS 56572
