Alice Olive Nelson

Alice Nelson, age 96, of rural Pelican Rapids, MN, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Pelican Valley Nursing Center in Pelican Rapids, MN. Alice Olive Nelson was born on April 9, 1919 to Oscar and Alma Mathilda (Orpen) Ruud in Pelican Rapids, MN. She grew up in Pelican Rapids, MN where she attended country school Dist. 276 through 8th grade and graduated Pelican Rapids High School in 1937. On May 3, 1958, Alice was united in marriage to Arthur H. Nelson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids. MN. In 1962 their daughter, Kathryn, was born. She passed at age 11. As a young woman, she worked at Boysen Hospital in Pelican Rapids. During WWII she moved to Denver where she worked as an ammunition inspector and in a department store. Later in life she was a dental assistant and worked for Dr. Borg for 11 years. Alice moved to Riverfront Manor in 2009 and to Pelican Valley Nursing Home in June 2014.Alice was a member of Life Church in Fergus Falls, MN. Her hobbies included reading, embroidery and counted cross-stitch. Alice was a homemaker, canning and baking, especially her cookies and Krum Kager, and serving her famous barbequed ribs and baked beans. She enjoyed traveling to Scandinavia meeting family.Alice is survived by one sister Agnes Borg, Pelican Rapids, MN, two sisters-in-law Josephine Ruud, Tucson, AZ and Lyla Ruud, Fremont, NE, and numerous nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her husband Arthur Nelson, daughter Kathryn Ann Nelson, two brothers Kenneth and Norman Ruud.
