Paul J. Casperson, age 81, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Monday, June 15, 2015 at the Pelican Valley Health Center in Pelican Rapids. Paul Joseph Casperson was born February 14, 1934 in Browerville, MN, to Henry and Pauline (Mudek) Caspersen. He was the oldest of 7 children. When Paul was nine years old his family moved to Milwaukee, WI, where he graduated from Pulaski High School in 1952. After high school, Paul joined the Army and fought in the Korean War where he specialized in communications. After he returned from duty, he was stationed in several states including Texas and Hawaii. After 13 years in the Army, Paul worked several jobs while raising his family. In 1973 he moved his family back to Browerville MN where he accomplished one of his dreams of building a home on Pine Island Lake. He worked for Harts Press in Long Prairie and joined the National Guard. He worked and served in the National Guard for 8 years until he had a stroke which forced him into early retirement. In 2001 he moved to Pelican Rapids, entering the Pelican Valley Health Center in 2012.He enjoyed the lake, fishing, fish fries, barbeques, watching golf and the Minnesota Vikings. He also enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #5252 in Pelican Rapids.Paul is survived by his 11 children: Pamela Miller, Lebanon, TN, Patrice (Buck) Saeger, Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Paul Casperson, Fargo, ND, Page (Chuck) VanZee, Joppa, MD, Perry (Vaye) Casperson, Climax, MN, Phil (Denise) Casperson, Browerville, MN, Peter Casperson, IA, Patrick (Sonia) Casperson, Glenwood, MN, Preston (Pearl) Casperson, Browerville, MN, Robert (Joan) Casperson, Long Prairie, MN, and Paula (Chuck) Waller Pelican Rapids, MN; his friend and caregiver, Karen Tingelstad; brothers: Henry, Harry and Alan; sisters: Shirley and Dawn; 23 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Joan, son-in-law John Miller, daughter-in-law Donna Casperson and one great-grandson.Visitation: Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.Clergy: Pastor Roger Rotvold Military Honors: American Legion Post #17 and Pelican Rapids V.F.W.
