LeRoy Percy Klovstad, age 85, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died October 29, 2015 with his family at his side at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. LeRoy Klovstad was born June 22, 1930 to Palmer Raymond and Alice Cora (Larson) Klovstad. He grew up in Norwegian Grove Township and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1949. In October 1951, he married Phyllis Virginia Siggerud at North Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids. They spent 38 years together, farming and raising five children. He also owned and operated a dairy equipment business for several years. After an 18 month battle with cancer, Virginia passed away in January of 1990. LeRoy was an avid outdoorsman; enjoying hunting, fishing and taking family members on deer hunting trips to the Black Hills and Wyoming. A jack of all trades, LeRoy could fix anything mechanical, built his own home and also did woodworking as a hobby. He served on the hospital district board and Minnesota Milk Producers, one term as president, and on the North Immanuel Church council and cemetery association boards. Remembering and honoring the past was important to LeRoy and he was instrumental in commemorating the West North Immanuel Church and Cemetery with a monument and directory. In his retirement years, he was either working the fields with his boys or on the trail researching family history with his daughters. Finding answers to family mysteries led him to research death records in county offices in western South Dakota, dig through the Norwegian-American archives at St. Olaf College, and visit countless cemeteries throughout Iowa, Minnesota, the Dakotas and Saskatchewan. The research took him to Europe and on the last trip there, attending a family reunion in Norway. LeRoy spoke fluent Norwegian and was very proud of his 100% Norwegian heritage. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching their participation in school events, hunting and talking "farming". LeRoy was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and greatly enjoyed hearing of their activities, adventures and accomplishments. He lived his entire life on the family farm in Norwegian Grove Township until moving to Riverfront Manor, Pelican Rapids in the fall of 2013. LeRoy is survived by his five children and their spouses who loved and admired him: Colleen (Mark) Engebretson of Breckenridge, MN, Steven (Sherry) Klovstad, Peter (Mary) Klovstad, Tim (Charlene) Klovstad, all of Pelican Rapids and Karen (Bill) Field of Erhard; 11 grandchildren: Kristoffer (Hanna) Engebretson, Mikael Engebretson, Kjerstin Engebretson; Casey Klovstad, Sam (Cassie) Klovstad, Alex Klovstad, Josh Klovstad; Hannah (Cody) Cox, Connor (Amanda) Klovstad; Mitchell Field and Benjamin Field; and 4 great grandchildren: Karter, Lena and Nora Engebretson and Kloe Klovstad. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia, his parents, his brother Allen Klovstad and sister-in-law Donna, sister, Norrine Walker and brother-in-law James and infant sister Helen Arlene.
