Marland Dow

Marland Dow, age 80, a resident of Pelican Rapids, MN, died Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.Marland Clarence Dow was born June 12, 1935 in Barnesville, Minnesota to Clarence and Arylis (Ambrose) Dow. He graduated from Barnesville High School and later graduated from North Dakota State University Agricultural College. Then Marland farmed southwest of Barnesville with his father until 1972. He also was employed at West Central Turkey Plant in Pelican Rapids. On September 23, 1972 he was united in marriage with Jeanne Kub in Ipswich, South Dakota. To this union two children were born, Eric and Laura. Marland worked for Minn-Dak Farmers Coop in Wahpeton for numerous years then was employed with Walmart in Detroit Lakes. Marland returned to Minn-Dak Farmers Coop retiring in 2012. Marland was involved with 4-H, Camp Counselor at Minnesota State Fair where he received a 50 year attendance award. Marland was a basketball referee for numerous years. He was a Jaycee Senator and Ambassador. Marland was also a United States Jaycee Director. He was the treasurer of the Pelican Rapids Lions Club, Lions District Governor, a Melvin Jones Fellow and owner of Pelican Specialities.He enjoyed Lions pin trading, leatherwork, gardening and hunting in his younger years.Marland is survived by his wife Jeanne, Pelican Rapids; mother Arylis Dow, Fergus Falls; son Eric (Patsy) Dow, Fergus Falls; daughter Laura Dow, Fargo; Grandchildren: Alana Dow, Eric Dow Jr and Vonna Dow.He is preceded in death by his father, grandparents, aunts and uncles.Memorials are preferred to Minnesota Lions Eye Bank or Minnesota Lions Diabetes Foundation.Visitation: Friday, June 24, 2016 from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids. Visitation resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
