Dalyce Axness

Dalyce Virginia Axness, age 91, of Pelican Rapids, MN, passed away Friday, January 15, 2016, at Lake Region Healthcare, Fergus Falls, MN.Dalyce Virginia Hanson was born October 28, 1924 in Rollag, MN the daughter of Walter and Emma (Ishaug) Hanson. She was baptized and confirmed at West North Immanuel Lutheran Church. Dalyce attended District School 14 near Rollag, and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1943. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN for one year, and the McPhail School of Music in Minneapolis, MN where she took vocal lessons. Dalyce worked at Minneapolis Moline for many years where she developed life-long friendships.In 1949 she was united in marriage to Loren John Jongeward. They adopted twin sons, Daniel and David, in 1962. John passed away in 1964. In 1966, Dalyce, Daniel, and David moved to Pelican Rapids, MN where she worked for J.P. Wallace State Bank and later worked at the West Central Turkey Plant. In 1981 Dalyce was united in marriage to Luvern Axness and lived on the farm until 2013 when they moved back to Pelican Rapids. Dalyce loved living back on a farm. Blessed with the God-given talent of being able to play by ear, Dalyce was a gifted piano player, and vocalist. She enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines, and the Pelican Pied Pipers, and provided music for many weddings, funerals, and other special occasions. She enjoyed being part of 'jam sessions' with other local musicians, where she and Luvern were reacquainted before their marriage in 1981. One of her greatest joys was spending time with family, especially when she could gather them at the farm. She was an active member of North Immanuel Lutheran Church, and the VFW Auxiliary.Dalyce is survived by her husband Luvern of Pelican Rapids; her son Daniel (Karen) Jongeward, Hawley, MN; Luvern's children: Barb (Tom) LeClaire, Burnsville, MN, Janis (Bob) Perrin, Pelican Rapids, and Lori (Greg) Anderson of Barnesville, MN; grandchildren: Alecia (Eric Larson) Jongeward, Zachary Anderson, Alexandra Anderson, Caterina Jongeward, Tyler (Brianna)Anderson, Angie (Nick) Dabruzzi, Andrea (Ryan) Hagen, Brittany (Nathan) Cwikla, Dana (Casey) Perrin, Nick LeClaire, 12 great grandchildren; sister Beverly (George) Kenealey of Bloomington, MN; brother David (Doris) Hanson of Hawley, MN, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Emma Hanson, her stepfather, Orris Ness, her first husband, Loren John Jongeward, her son, David Jongeward, and her sister, Grace (Lee) Tvedten.Visitation: Tuesday, January 19, 2016 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home in Pelican Rapids, MN.
