Shirley Doris Eleanora Nelson

Shirley Doris Eleanora (Olson) Nelson, age 92, of Erhard, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 20th at the Golden Living Center in Henning, Minnesota.Shirley was born July 24, 1923, to Oscar M. and Marie (Gunderson) Olson at the family farm in Folden Township. Shirley was baptized and confirmed at Elmo Lutheran Church. She attended rural school through the 8th grade at which time she was needed at home to assist with her ailing mother. Shirley was married to Howard Nelson in Fergus Falls in 1942. They farmed in rural Erhard until 1954, when they moved to Ely and later to Aurora, Minnesota. In 1958 they moved back to the Erhard area and lived on Eddie Lake, later to Basswood and then into the city of Erhard.Although she never worked outside the home, her time was spent taking care of their home and their two children, Bruce and Vicki. Some of the things that Shirley enjoyed were flower gardening, doing embroidery work, visiting with people, spending time with her family and being active in her church. While living at Basswood, she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. She loved music, anytime a song would come on, her foot would be tapping and she would be humming or singing along. One of the things Shirley will be most remembered for is her great love for the Lord. She continually looked to God for guidance. She was a special woman who will be sorely missed.Shirley is survived by her children: Bruce of Erhard and daughter, Vicki Lien of Fergus Falls; five grandchildren: Bruce (Shirley Jean) Nelson Jr., Erhard, Leslie (Angie) Nelson, Rothsay, Melissa (Darrin Broin) Hagen, Fargo, ND, Trevor (Kristen Sauter) Nelson, West Fargo, ND and Cory (Deb) Lien, Moorhead; 12 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Dorothy Johnson, Federal Way, WA and Deloris Herbranson, Vining, MN, sister-in-law, Lorraine Olson, Perham MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her parents: Oscar M. and Marie Olson; husband Howard Nelson; a great-great- granddaughter, Natasha Lien; and her siblings: infant brother, Clifford Olson, Lorna (Olson) Zunker, Marland Olson and Kenneth Olson.The family would like to thank you for your prayers and support.Visitation: Wednesday, May 25 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN.
