Robert Julian Hanson

Robert Julian Hanson, age 73, was born on October 24, 1942 in Fargo, N.D. Bob passed away on June 5th, 2016 at his home in Keystone, S.D. surrounded by his family and friends. Born to Bernard and Marian Hanson of Pelican Rapids, MN. He grew up and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1961. He married Barb Minge in 1961, and they have three children together, Rick, Beth and Kris. He worked at Hohman Telephone and then moved to Moorhead to work for W.W. Wallwork. He moved down to Burnsville, MN where he worked at Midway Ford, Shakopee Ford and then C-Lynd Ford in New Prague. During the year of 1977, he brought his family back to his hometown of Pelican Rapids where he worked at his father's store until it burned down in 1985.Bob was instrumental in getting the swimming pool for the community of Pelican Rapids, he was a long time member of the Lions Club, he was a past president of the Chamber of Commerce, he was involved in getting the horseshoe pits and club, he helped in the development of the Lake Runners Trail Association snowmobile club, he was active on the committee for the Pelican Rapids Tourist Theme Song, he also was sexton of the Pelican Valley Cemetery.Bob married Stephanie Lende and they both took a job at Trim All before moving to South Dakota to own a Mini Doughnut shop and Gerties Restaurant on the boardwalk of Keystone, SD. They have two children together, Breanna and Brittney. He then retired after ten years of service working for Hardware Hank in Hill City, S.D.Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, he was active in his communities, elected Mayor for Keystone and President and founder of the Let's ride ATV Club. He loved going on trail rides and 4 wheeling with his family and friends.He is survived by his wife Stephanie Hanson; daughters Breanna and Brittney Lende-Hanson, all of Keystone, SD; son Rick (Tammy) Hanson Pelican Rapids MN, daughters, Beth (Keith) Janu, Frazee MN, and Kris (Fritz) Kunz, Detroit Lakes, MN; sisters, Karen (Curt) Lahlum, Pelican Rapids, MN and Kathy (Dan) Mangler, Onalaska, WI; grandchildren, Derek (Katy) Hanson, Litchfield, MN, Daniel and Whitney Janu, Frazee, MN, Matthew Thompson, Moorhead, MN, and Patrick (P.J.) Hanson, Little Falls, MN; great grandchildren, Madison and Mason Hanson, Litchfield, MN.He was preceded in death by his Father Bernard, Mother Marian and his brother David.A memorial gathering will be held at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN on Thursday, July 7th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Home:Larson Funeral Home304 3rd Street S.E.Pelican Rapids, MNUS 56572
