Delores Marcelle Sorum, 84, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Fargo, North Dakota, surrounded by family who find comfort knowing their mom has joined loved ones who have gone before her. She has already danced a waltz with their dad just in time for their 64th Anniversary on June 29 and has also enjoyed a two-step with their brother. Delores was born March 22, 1932, in Ottertail County, Minnesota, to Martin and Alma (Aarness) Haugen. Delores attended country school in Pelican Rapids, and was baptized at North Immanuel Lutheran Church and confirmed at Pelican Valley Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids. After graduating from Pelican Rapids High School in 1950, she attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, North Dakota.Delores was united in marriage to Selvin Sorum on June 29, 1952, at Pelican Valley Lutheran Church. Delores and Selvin made a home at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. After Selvin returned from the Korean War, they later lived in Elbow Lake and Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, where they raised their seven children. Selvin died May 22, 2005.Delores was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was active in circle and serving groups. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the VFW. Prior to her marriage, Delores worked in the office at Omeara's Department Store in Fergus Falls and later worked at the Good Samaritan Center and was employed for 27 years at Super Valu in Pelican Rapids. However, Delores most enjoyed being at home and spending time with her family. Her family looked forward to gatherings where she prepared favorite items, including caramel rolls, chocolate chip cookies, lefse, potato salad, barbequed ribs, and meatballs with mashed potatoes and mom's homemade gravy.Survivors include six of her seven children: Bob Sorum of Apple Valley, MN; Carol (Paul) Strand of Rocklin, CA; Dennis (Terri) Sorum and Diane (Ron) Jensen of Pelican Rapids, MN; Renee (Mike) Lerfald of Moorhead, MN; and Cindy (Wes) Gabbert of Fargo, ND, and daughter-in-law, Dorothy Sorum; 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren: Mandi (Dave) Pederson with Emily and Brandon, Matthew Sorum, Jessica (Travis) Mougeotte with Mckayla and Camryn, Sara (Stephen) Sheffield with Jacob, Tyler and Kristina, Julie (Kyle) Jones, Nick (Sophia) Sorum with Anika, Andrew (Chrisandra) Sorum, Patrick (Kinzie Molstre) Sorum, Joseph Sorum with David, Alexander and Megan Sorum, and Isaac and Ashley Gabbert; and one step-granddaughter, Michele (Jawaan Collins) Jensen. Delores was awaiting the arrival of two more great-grandchildren this summer.Surviving siblings include: Duane (Helen) Haugen of Fergus Falls, MN; Darlene (Dale) Bischoff of New Prague, MN; and Janet (Orlando) Follingstad of Battle Lake, MN and sisters-in-law, Tilda Haugan of Fergus Falls, MN and Valdine Haugen of Clitherall, MN.Delores is preceded in death by her husband; her son, David; her brothers, Glanis, Jerome and Manley; her sister-in-law Martha Haugen; her parents; and her in-laws, Orville and Bernice Sorum.The family wishes to thank the staff at Villa Maria and Hospice of the Red River Valley for the care provided and kindness shown to their mom and family.
