Ernest Restad

Ernest Restad, age 99, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Pelican Valley Health Center in Pelican Rapids, MN.Ernest "Ernie" Julian Restad was born on January 13, 1917 to Alfred Peder "A.P." and Hilda Elise (Krogstad) Restad. He was born on the family farm, where he lived until 1989, when he and Marcie built a home in town. He had been a lifelong member of Grove Lake Lutheran Church where he was baptized, confirmed, and married. He attended Country School District #183. Ernie was married to Marcella "Marcie" Louise Janke on July 19, 1942 at the Grove Lake Parsonage in Pelican Rapids. Ernie served his country in the US Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946. By his time of discharge, he had attained the rank of staff sergeant. He returned home to continue what he had started in his youth, Ernie's lifetime love and labor of dairy farming. Stuart and Birdie took over the farm in 1982, but he never truly retired from doing farm work.He and Marcie enjoyed music, dancing, and playing cards. After retirement, he and Marcie took many car and bus trips all over the United States. During his lifetime, he served on numerous boards including Grove Lake Church, Park Region Coop Board, Scambler Township Clerk, Oscar Parke Mutual Insurance Board, and Oscar Parke Township Fire Insurance. Ernest is survived by his sister, Ellen Anderson, Fargo, ND; daughter, Cheryl (Norris) Hushagen of Stanchfield, MN, son Stuart (Roberta) Restad of Pelican Rapids; daughter-in-law Terri Restad of Kennewick, WA; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Ernie is preceded in death by his wife Marcie, their son Bruce, grandson Alexander Restad, nine siblings: Cecelia Randklev, Alvilda "Allie" Bergstrom, Lottie Solum, Joel, Maurice, Norman, Edna Anderson, Raymond, and Amos. Visitation: Friday, September 23, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN.
