Irene Bernice Baumer

Irene Baumer, 94, of Pelican Rapids, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 12, 2016 the Pelican Valley Health Center in Pelican Rapids.Irene Bernice was born January 18, 1922 in rural Blue Earth, MN to Adolph and Cecilia (Linder) Willette. Irene graduated from Blue Earth County School. After graduation, being the oldest of 12 children, she continued to help on the family farm and help raise her siblings. In 1941 the family moved to rural Detroit Lakes where they continued to farm. On April 17, 1941 she was united in marriage with Edwin F. Cusey in Moorhead. They lived in Moorhead where Irene raised her nine children. During this time she also worked at several cafes. In December of 1965 Irene married Irvin H. Baumer in Fargo. They ran a successful trucking business. Later Irene and Irvin moved to Kindred, ND where they owned and operated a hotel, caf and bar for several years. Irvin died on July 16, 1977. Irene ran a home daycare for numerous years and then she moved to Pelican Rapids.Living in Pelican Rapids she also owned and operated a home daycare and cleaned area homes. She moved to the Mill Pond View apartments in Pelican Rapids where she lived for many years. Then Irene lived at Riverfront on Main and then moved to Riverfront Manor, both in Pelican Rapids. For the last three weeks Irene was a resident at Pelican Valley Health Center.Irene was an avid quilter, making quilts for most of her family. Irene took pleasure in gardening, playing cards, and cooking huge meals. She enjoyed traveling and spending time at the lakes. One of the things Irene will be remembered for is her hard work ethic. Irene loved to be with people and really had the gift of gab. No one could get more done in such a short time than Irene. She had an uncanny ability to feel other people's pain and help them in their time of need. Her family was her life and she lived life to its fullest. Irene will truly be missed by many.She is survived by her children: Edwin (Connie) Cusey, Fergus Falls, MN, Marvin (Shelley) Cusey-Hohman, Pelican Rapids, MN, Vern (Lyn) Cusey, Bloomington, MN, Terry Cusey, Wahpeton, ND, Mona (Harlen) Thorstenson, Toledo, OH, Cynthia (Tylan) Kronbeck, Hawley, MN, Kim (Vicki) Cusey, Hawley, MN, Sharon (Lowell) Gebhardt, West Fargo, ND; 24 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; 32 great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers; 8 sisters; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Irvin; 2 daughters: Monica Cusey and Connie (Cusey) Bjonfald; grandson Marty Cusey; and 1 brother.
