Robert Carl Swenson

Robert Swenson, 65, of rural Pelican Rapids, died at his residence on Saturday, December 31, 2016. Robert Carl Swenson was born on November 15, 1951 to Carl Edwin and Gladys Selvina (Platen) Swenson in Fergus Falls, MN. His young years were spent growing up in Erhard. The family then moved to Hopkins, MN and Bob graduated from Hopkins High School. Following graduation, he worked in several plastic factories throughout the Twin Cities. Following the death of his mother in 1979, Bob moved back to Erhard, to help care for his dad. He worked with the developmentally disabled at the Treatment Center in Fergus Falls for 14 years. He had a gift working with the mentally disabled. Bob struggled his whole life with the demons of chemical abuse. He lived in group homes throughout Minnesota in recent years. For the last year and a half he lived near his childhood home.He is survived by a sister Barbara (Ron) Aksamit, St. Cloud, MN, brother Dick (Marsha) Swenson, Erhard, MN, half-sister Joan (David) Butcher, Tucson, AZ, and several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, half-brother Marvin Peterson, and half-sister Arlene Skovholt.
