Barbara Hammond

Barbara Hammond, age 79, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at her home in Pelican Rapids.Barbara Joyce Hammond was born on May 4, 1937 to Wesley Sr. and Verna (Wolff) Merchant in Janesville, WI.On December 19, 1953 Barbara was united in marriage to George Hammond in Rockton, Illinois. She was a beautician for many years in a home salon. In 1974, Barbara and George purchased El's Resort on Pelican Lake near Pelican Rapids. They eventually changed the name to Bayview Shores Resort. They sold the resort in 1979. After owning the resort Barbara worked a variety of jobs in the food industry Pelican Pizza, Dunvilla, and Walmart in Detroit Lakes.Barbara will be remembered for her love of reading and playing trivia at Randy's. Also for her quick wit, smile and laugh.Barbara is survived by her daughters; Deborah (Mickey Shaw) Hammond, Hendersonville, TN; Denise (David) Boe, Pelican Rapids, MN; and son; Dennis Hammond, Pelican Rapids, MN; 7 Grandchildren: Jeffrey (Jennifer) Corey, Matthew (Molly) Corey, Nicole (Matt) Horan, Noelle (Chad) Toscano, Ryan (Heather) Boe, Crystal May, and Dustin Boe; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers; Merle (Pauline) Merchant, Wesley (Betty) Merchant; sisters: Pat Benson and Pam Dudek; three brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband George and daughter, Diane.Graveside Service: 1:00 p.m., Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Scambler Cemetery near Pelican Rapids.Clergy: Lay Pastor Al GrothePlease keep Barbara's family in your thoughts and prayers.Funeral Home: Larson Funeral Home 304 3rd Street S.E.
