Gary Olstad

Gary Olstad, age 76, passed away suddenly Tuesday June 13, 2017 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND. Gary was born on October 14, 1940 to Erling and Verna Olstad in Valley City, ND. He grew up on the farm near Litchville. In 1958 he graduated from Litchville High School and went on to NDSCS and graduated with an Electrical degree. After college he met the love of his life Kay. They were married 54 years and were blessed with 3 sons; Rick, Chad and Shane. Gary went on to work for Burroughs Corporation where he worked until 1982 when he took over the family farm near Litchville. Gary retired from farming and moved to Lake Lida where he worked for Lakeshirts until retiring. Gary loved to fish and passed on that love to his kids and grandkids. He had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Kay, mother Verna, sons: Rick (Becky), Chad (Sarah), Shane (Emilee); grandchildren: Karissa (Ben) Geiger, Kelly, Samantha, Andrea, Maggie, JoAnna, Kya, Logan, Abigail, and Brandon; brothers: Gale (Betty) Olstad, Denis (Janet) Olstad; brothers-in-law: Roger (Shirley) Nelson, Vern Nelson, Harvey (Mary) Nelson, Clayton (Brenda) Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Erling and grandchildren: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Joseph and Abigail.Visitation: Sunday, June 18, 2017, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 4:00 p.m.at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN.
