George Richard Lyon

George Lyon, 89, a resident of Pelican Rapids died on June 15, 2017, at the Pelican Valley Health Center in Pelican Rapids.George Richard Lyon was born May 16, 1928 in Hibbing, MN to George Richard and Alma (Onstad) Lyon. In 1946 he graduated from Hibbing High School. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He then attended the University of Minnesota and was in the first class that graduated with a Degree in Veterinary Medicine.In 1952 he married Marvis Anderson. They had two children: Rick and Linda. George"Doc" Lyon moved to Pelican Rapids where he owned and operated Lyon Animal Clinic for many years. Following the sale of his practice in Pelican Rapids, he moved to Princeton, MN and worked as a veterinarian there until he retired. In 2000 Doc moved from Princeton to Pelican Rapids. In 2015 his health led him to the P.V.H.C. where he was taken care of by many super health professionals.Doc had many hobbies; hunting, fishing, woodworking and traveling. His travels led him as far as Africa, Europe, South America and the Arctic. His greatest passion however was flying. He flew numerous different planes ranging from an Aeronca Champ to a King Air and many in between. The favorite was his Cessna 180 on floats.George "Doc" Lyon is survived by his son Rick (Jayne) Lyon, Pelican Rapids; daughter Linda (Richard) Bakken, St. Cloud; grandson Jay (Kristie) Lyon , Candia NH, with their children Connor and Devyn; grandson Eric (Kirsten) Lyon with their children Alaina and Elley; granddaughter Jennifer (Gerry) Bergquist with their children, Olivia, Holly, and Jack, grandson Lucas (Elizabeth) Bakken with their children Ean, Cayden and Eliza, all from Pelican Rapids; and grandson Mason Bakken, Fargo, ND ; brother Jack (Teddi) Lyon, Pengilly, MN; and numerous nieces & nephews.George was preceded in death by his parents and nephew John Lyon.Visitation: Saturday, June 24, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN.Prayer Service: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.Clergy: Pastor Jeff McCracken Funeral Home:Larson Funeral Home 304 3rd Street S.E.
